Dermatology patients sometimes have emergency problems and it can be difficult for them to get a dermatologist to assess them quickly or urgently. For this reason we have created a Dermatological Emergency Unit so that every patient can be evaluated by a dermatologist on the day *.
Although the specialty of Dermatology does not have emergencies that endanger life, numerous cutaneous pictures can be a great stress for the patient and can affect them psychologically and reduce their quality of life in an intense way.
The diseases that we usually treat of emergencies are: herpes, cutaneous infections, stings, reactions to drugs, allergies, cutaneous alterations in oncological patients, urticarias, eczemas and other pathologies. In our Emergency Unit we serve both adults and children.
It is very important that these skin diseases are treated properly from the start. For example, treatment of herpes is only effective if it starts within the first 3 days of onset. In addition, on many occasions we see patients who initially have not been evaluated by a dermatologist and present a wrong diagnosis. Oncology patients who have a large amount of cutaneous symptoms that greatly diminish their quality of life deserve a special chapter.
Today there are new oncological drugs that have very specific cutaneous side effects that need a diagnosis and an adequate treatment, so it is important that these patients are evaluated by dermatologists with experience in these complications.
Our new service, which is the first private dermatological emergency service of the Community of Madrid, will be offered uninterruptedly from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm, at the International Dermatological Clinic, Calle Marqués de Villamagna 8. Madrid.
* Urgencies will be evaluated by a dermatologist, but we can not guarantee that it is your usual doctor.
